Why RateMyRoads Exists

In many communities, potholes and unsafe road conditions go unresolved for weeks, months, or even years—until enough people speak up. But those voices often stay isolated or unheard. RateMyRoads was created to give those voices a shared map, letting anyone see where problems are happening, confirm issues, and track repairs over time.

How It Works

Anyone can use RateMyRoads to:

• Explore the map: See reports of road issues across the U.S., organized by ZIP code and neighborhood.
• Submit a report: Found a pothole, crack, or dangerous intersection? Add a location, a rating, and an optional description.
• Confirm or mark fixed: Agree with existing reports to validate them—or mark an issue as resolved. When 3 different users confirm a fix, the report is moved from the heatmap to the fixed roads list.
• See the data: View which ZIP codes have the worst roads, longest unresolved issues, or the highest report volume.

Our Mission

RateMyRoads was built to give communities a voice in their infrastructure. By making road conditions publicly visible—and tracking which issues get resolved—it helps everyday people advocate for safer, better-maintained roads. Every report contributes to a growing, transparent record of where repairs are needed most.
