Sarno Road 2/5 5+ years Unsafe. Officials state that over 20,000 drivers use the multi-lane Sarno Road every day. Experts recommend that multi-lane roads have medians, not just center turn lanes. The local school district allows its school buses to stop on Sarno Road to drop off kids, and is using AI ticketing to catch “reckless” drivers who don’t stop. However, this ticketing system is sending tickets to drivers on the opposite side of Sarno Road who would not see a stopped school bus until within 12 seconds and would be expected to slam on brakes with many cars behind in order to try to come to full stop. A car driving the typical 40mph would need 164 feet to come to a safe stop. Of course cars should stop for school buses, but cars on the opposite side could potentially cause crashes with sudden stops for a bus on the far opposite lane. Multi-lane roads with medians do not require that drivers on the opposite side stop. Those drivers do need to slow as they can and proceed with caution. Sarno Road should have a median and school buses should not be stopping on Sarno to drop off kids. 2026-05-04
